A Study on the Life and Poetry Influence of Pablo Neruda in Kim Nam-joo’s Poetry
In this paper, we looked on the process of poet Kim Nam-joo’s acceptance of Neruda’s life and poetry. Kim Nam-joo read six of Neruda’s poem for the first time, which were translated by poet Kim Soo-young in the summer issue of Creation and Criticism in 1968. Kim Nam-joo was a natural acceptance of Neruda’s poems, and while reading and singing Neruda’s work, he entered the stage of self-awareness.<br/> Kim Nam-joo practically accepted Neruda’s poetry as a way to overcome Korean poetry. He felt that the situation of colonies and social classes in Latin America under the control of the United States was similar to that of Korea and sought to overcome it. Kim Nam-joo participated in the Namminjeon (South Korean National Liberation Front), following the life of Neruda as a revolutionary fighter. Poet worked as part of an avant-garde organization with the belief that they could write the most revolutionary poems by being together in the revolutionary struggle. Kim Nam-joo deepened and expanded his poetry creation activities by accepting Neruda’s life and poetry. First of all, translation work is a practical movement to pursue revolution. While living in prison for the Namminjeon incident, he thought it was for the people’s revolution and worked passionately. Kim Nam-joo’s creative work is significant because he has walked the path of a poet who pursued revolution to the end. Kim Nam-joo captured the concrete lives of the people through poetry creation.
