A RARE CASE REPORT OF MALTA FEVER – BRUCELLOSIS
Brucellosis is a major cause of febrile illnesses in area with high exposure to animals or unpasteurized milk and dairy products. It may manifest with multisystem clinical presentations. Our patient was a 42- year female who was presented with prolonged history of pain in abdomen and fever with chills, not responding to antibiotics. upon inquiry, the history revealed that she was on and off abdomen pain since 1-year, old USG abdomen suggestive as liver abscess and mild splenomegaly with prominent splenic veins. upon investigation, serum antibodies for brucellosis were raised (1: 160). She was started on doxycycline. She became afebrile within 5-6 days so was discharged home. Clinicians should have high index of suspicion for brucellosis.
