The concept of digitalization of road infrastructure projects in Ukraine: utilizing geoinformation technologies to enhance management efficiency

Rapid urbanization and the growth of urban populations pose serious challenges for transportation infrastructure, including road overload, traffic jams, and decreased traffic safety, which negatively affect the quality of life and economic development of regions. In Ukraine, the situation is further complicated by the consequences of military actions that have led to the destruction of a significant portion of road infrastructure. Traditional approaches to managing road infrastructure projects, based on paper documentation and fragmented data, no longer meet modern challenges. The solution to this problem lies in the digitalization of road infrastructure projects using geographic information systems (GIS). The aim of this study is to develop a conceptual model for the digitalization of road infrastructure projects using GIS, adapted to the Ukrainian context, and to formulate practical recommendations for its implementation. Expected Research Results. The study anticipates conducting an analysis of literature and documentation to systematize existing knowledge and identify best practices in the field of digitalization of road infrastructure projects and the use of GIS. It is planned to collect and analyze geospatial data of the studied region, forming a database of road infrastructure that will include information on road geometry, pavement condition, traffic intensity, and other key parameters. Based on the obtained data, a conceptual model of digitalization will be developed, taking into account the specifics of the Ukrainian road sector and including key components, stages, and processes of digital transformation. Practical recommendations for implementing the developed model at the national and regional levels will also be formulated, covering organizational, technological, and regulatory aspects. Conclusions. The results of the study are expected to confirm the significant potential of using geoinformation technologies to improve the efficiency of road infrastructure management in Ukraine. The developed conceptual model and practical recommendations can serve as a basis for optimizing the processes of planning, designing, constructing, and operating roads, reducing costs, improving road quality, and enhancing road safety. Further research may focus on expanding the geographical scope of the study, integrating GIS with other digital technologies, developing specialized software, and evaluating the economic and social effects of digitalizing road infrastructure.
