Overview of modern conflict management models and methods in projects

We live in a rapidly changing world. The field of project management is experiencing a dynamic evolution caused by the development of artificial intelligence and the use of hybrid approaches to project management. In modern conditions, due to the rapid development of technologies, the influence of global trends, the complexity of projects, the challenges of remote and hybrid work, the emphasis on diversity and inclusiveness, new sources of conflicts appear. Since conflicts are inevitable and can affect the success of the project team in different ways, conflict management is an important factor in effective teamwork. The purpose of the article is an analytical review of modern models and methods of conflict management in order to demonstrate their diversity and opportunities for application in conflict management in project teams in a modern working environment. Research has shown that there is a wide variety of models and methods that can be used to manage conflict in project teams. In particular, such models and methods as The Conflict Map, The Circle of Conflict, The Wheel of Conflict, The Onion Model, The Conflict Tree, The Conflict Triangle/ABC Triangle, The Iceberg Model, The Fishbone Diagram or Ishikawa Diagram, The Five Whys and the Kepner-Trego Method ( The Kepner-Tregoe method). Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages. It is noted that understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each method or model will enable project managers to adapt their approach to specific situations, thereby promoting productive cooperation and team cohesion. Regarding the management of conflict management in projects, the study found that most scholars pay attention to Kenneth W. Thomas and Ralph H. Kielmann's method, which provides five strategies for dealing with conflict, each of which can be effective depending on the situation. Meanwhile, it is noted that the issues of effective conflict management in projects require constant attention and adaptation to the rapidly changing modern environment. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the method of Kenneth W. Thomas and Ralph H. Kilmann remains a very relevant, widespread and valuable tool. However, it is important to realize that no one style of behaviour is universally effective, just as there is no single correct method or model of conflict management. Conflict management in project teams in today's changing environment cannot be carried out with the help of template approaches, which emphasizes the critical need for continuous improvement of the conflict management process, in the application of new adaptive approaches, in the integration and synergy of different models and methods for effective conflict management.
