A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF DIABETES TRENDS: INDIA AND SELECTED COUNTRIES

Diabetes mellitus, often referred to as a silent killer owing to its severe complications and impact on quality of life, is a growing global health concern. The World Health Organization projects a staggering 628.6 million individuals will be affected by diabetes by 2045. India, in particular, bears a significant burden, often termed the "diabetes capital" of the world. With an estimated 72 million diabetics in 2017 (Pradeepa et al., 2019), the International Diabetic Federation predicted that this number would double by 2045.The present study aimed to analyse the long-term trend of diabetes in India and examine the India’s diabetes trend among top ten most populous countries in the world by using data from International Diabetic Federation (IDF) Atlas editions and drawing on findings from the National Family Health Survey of India. Evidence of a higher trend was provided for India by using trend analysis and exponential growth model. How India's diabetes trend differs from those of other populous countries in the world was examined using IBM SPSS VERSION 21, using ANOVA and post hoc HSD. The results indicated that India could become home to 114 million diabetics by 2050, India has higher diabetes trend among top ten most populous countries in the world

The World Health Organization projects a staggering 628.6 million individuals will be affected by diabetes by 2045.
