Contemporary problems of updating the theoretical foundations of book studies
The author’s position presented in the article suggests some corrections of accents in the ongoing discussion about the state and prospects of book science in the twenty-first century and the study of book culture as book science. In the modern discourse, approaches are actively proposed that imply the fragmentation of book studies into documentological, bibliocultural, mediological and other directions. However, the potential of new directions, especially in terms of the theoretical justification of claims to innovation in the study of the book and book culture, is still in the process of formation. The only scientific discipline fully oriented towards the study of the book and book culture is book science.
