Assessment of Large-Scale Solar (LSS) Integration into Malaysian Utility Plants via ETAP Simulation

The integration of Large-Scale Solar (LSS) systems into existing utility infrastructures is becoming increasingly critical for power generation companies as the global demand for renewable energy increases. Additionally, the Malaysian government is advocating for the adoption of renewable energy sources to mitigate carbon emissions and enhance sustainability. Consequently, this paper examines the feasibility of integrating LSS systems into Malaysia's gas turbine generator (GTG) power facility while adhering to the existing facility limitation of New Enhanced Dispatch Arrangement (NEDA) requirement of maximum and minimum export, GTG fuel gas consumption efficiency and delivering green power to customers. The methodology involves designing and simulating the utility plant using ETAP Software version 22.5.0, focusing on the effective integration of a 25 MWac solar power plant into the existing infrastructure, which includes multiple GTGs and connections to the external electrical grid. Findings reveal significant insights into the technical feasibility and operational impacts of integrating LSS systems, contributing to the sustain ability and carbon reduction goals of the Malaysian energy sector.
