Mathematical Optimization Model for the Application-Based Multi-Use of Residential Prosumer Battery Storage Systems
The single-use of a stationary residential battery storage system (BSS) to increase self-consumption does not fully utilize its technical potential. The application-based multi-use of BSSs provides an opportunity to increase the effective usage of BSSs' technical potential and resulting profits, aiding in overcoming the barrier of high investment cost. This research presents a mathematical optimization model for the dynamic application-based multi-use of stationary residential BSSs with the objective of maximizing the applications', respectively, the prosumers' profit. Four applications are modeled: self-consumption increase, feed-in and load peak shaving, provision of frequency contain-ment reserve, and spot market trading. Within an exemplary prosumer scenario, the functionality of the multi-use model for BSSs and its applications is verified, and its economic benefit for residential prosumers is proven.
