Improving Energy Efficiency in Electric Vehicle Machine Drives Through MRAC Tuned DT Control
An analysis of current market trends and environmental imperatives clearly indicate that electric vehicles (EVs) are emerging to dominate the future of the automotive industry. Enhancing the energy efficiency of EVs has become a critical priority to optimize performance, extend range, and reduce overall energy consumption. This necessitates the deployment of advanced control strategies, such as the implementation of an optimized Direct Torque Control (DTC) technique tuned by Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC), throughout the drivetrain system to regulate the machine drive's operation under varying operational conditions. The machine drive is powered by a battery pack connected to a bidirectional DC-DC converter. Recharging of the battery is done through the implementation of regenerative braking. The machine drive is governed by an inverter circuit whose operation is managed using the MRAC-DTC method. The key feature distinguishing the MRAC-DTC is its ability to control the speed and flux as the drive accelerates or decelerates using DTC while delivering the necessary torque to the load by leveraging MRAC's adaptability.
