A Hierarchical Topology Optimization Method for Designing Modularized Subarrayed Phased Arrays
Modularized subarrayed phased arrays are presented in this work to reduce design complexity and improve circular polarization performance. To minimize the loss of the beam-scanning performance caused by modularization, a hierarchical topology optimization method is presented. It optimizes module orientations and the common subarray layout in the modules by a two-level optimization process, ensuring that the loss of the beam-scanning performance is not significant. As a result, the designed array can still maintain relatively good beam-scanning performance on the premise of low design complexity, high boresight directivity and good circular polarization performance. A series of comparison results are provided.
