Towards Net-Zero Emissions by 2050: Developing a Course Syllabus to Teach Undergraduate Students the Fundamentals of Energy Efficiency
The energy sector is a major contributor to the greenhouse gas emissions, mainly through the burning of fossil fuels in the energy supply chain. According to scientific reports, there is an international focus on doubling the average annual rate of global energy efficiency improvements between 2023 and 2030. This is critical for meeting the rapidly growing global energy demand and maintaining the Earth's average surface temperature within the target level. Thus, there will be large investments and great opportunities in the field of energy efficiency. It is critical to develop human capital to succeed in achieving these ambitious targets in the energy sector. This paper provides a roadmap for creating a multidisciplinary course to teach the fundamentals of energy efficiency. The course objectives, motivations, learning outcomes, content, learning resources and pedagogical tools are presented.
