Assessing the Regulating Contribution of a Multi-Leg Smart Charging Infrastructure (MLSCI) Under Different Charging Scenarios

The paper aims to investigate the regulating contribution of a Multi-Leg Smart Charging Infrastructure under different charging scenarios. This is a topology able to provide grid services by exploiting both the possibility of controllably meshing medium voltage distribution feeders and the vehicle-to-grid charging strategy while providing fast charging to the connected electric vehicles. The multiple functionalities that the proposed charging infrastructure topology introduces can have a significant positive impact on both voltage profiles, and line congestions particularly in distribution networks with a high presence of active users. The proposed work shows the benefits achievable from the optimal management of the developed concept on the distribution network in terms of losses, voltage profiles and line currents.
