Medium Voltage Energy Cable Diagnostics – Service Provider Experiences and Diagnostic Information System

In this paper the combination of service provider (SP) testing and domain experiences of medium voltage energy cables in combination with the use of a diagnostic information system (IS) is discussed. The diagnostic measures include dissipation factor and partial discharge. To be able to realize a scientifically based, high-quality and consistent on-site test practice in tight testing projects, technical experiences are discussed. For SP, typically very little information about the energy cables, historic measurement data or operational data is available. Thus, this paper gives an overview about typically available data, and discusses data-driven use cases that are possible accordingly. An IS to document, display and analyze conducted diagnostic measurements is presented. By systematically modelling, storing, visualizing, and documenting test results, the assessment process after a conducted diagnostic measurement can be supported and a high quality diagnostic result can be achieved.
