Advanced Power Electronics Interface for Designing Electric Vehicle Charging Architecture
The transportation industry’s electrification transformation is happening very quickly. Car manufacturers are reacting to consumer and societal demands for carbon-neutral technology that enables sustainable transportation by aggressively pursuing comprehensive electrification projects for their vehicle fleets. Power electronics technology is rapidly advancing and plays a vital part in this revolutionary journey. Although some of the newer technologies have matured, these systems' electrical complexity necessitates excellent reliability. As a result, the focus of this paper is on assessing the dependability of the power electronic systems used in both electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). It describes the unique needs for dependability and the difficulties that come with using power electronics in EV applications. The paper delves into additional detail on developments in power electronic components meant to solve reliability issues, considering each component’s unique contributions to the overall reliability of the system. We examine a reliability-oriented design technique and give real-world examples, such as the drive train inverter and an EV onboard charger. Finally, the paper provides an overview of future directions for research on EV/HEV power electronics dependability like design and testing, monitoring control, simulation of components and component technology. Even while many areas of reliability have been successfully addressed, the emergence of completely new technologies emphasizes how crucial it is to continue to keep reliability as a top priority.
