Modulation of Cellular Processes in Adipose Derived Stem Cells Using Penetrating Nanoelectrodes

This paper reports on a novel chemical factor-free process to modulate or control cellular processes in stem cells. Specifically, we have shown that Adipose Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) can be differentiated into neuronal lineage by only applying electrical stimulation delivered via micromachined penetrating nanoelectrodes and have compared this novel methodology to the conventional differentiation of ADSCs achieved using chemical growth factors and other reagents.

Abstract

This paper reports on a novel chemical factor-free process to modulate or control cellular processes in stem cells. Specifically, we have shown that Adipose Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) can be differentiated into neuronal lineage by only applying electrical stimulation delivered via micromachined penetrating nanoelectrodes and have compared this novel methodology to the conventional differentiation of ADSCs achieved using chemical growth factors and other reagents.
