Beyond Existing Analysis: The Rigorous Illumination of Choice from Extant Neuroscience and Philosophy

The age-old question of the existence of human free has been tackled by the field of philosophy traditionally. However, this question has recently been challenged by neuroscience experiments suggesting our decisions are made unconsciously by our brains before we’re aware of them. In this article, we explore the validity of this argument and the conclusions it brings regarding human responsibility and morality, and whether this experiment is sufficient to declare the death of human free will as we know it.

Abstract

The age-old question of the existence of human free has been tackled by the field of philosophy traditionally. However, this question has recently been challenged by neuroscience experiments suggesting our decisions are made unconsciously by our brains before we’re aware of them. In this article, we explore the validity of this argument and the conclusions it brings regarding human responsibility and morality, and whether this experiment is sufficient to declare the death of human free will as we know it.
