Nutraceuticals potential of Zingiber officinale and Linum usitatissimum: A comprehensive analysis of macroscopic, microscopic, physico-chemical and phyto-chemical properties

Ginger ( Zingiber officinale ) and flaxseed ( Linum usitatissimum ) demonstrate a diverse spectrum of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, with therapeutic applications in integrative medicine, attributed to bioactive compounds like gingerols in ginger and lignans in flaxseed. The identification and measurement of these secondary metabolites is crucial for ensuring the efficacy of herbal products. This study aimed to explore the pharmacological potential and phytochemical properties of ginger and flaxseed extracts with a focus on their bioactive compounds. Additionally, structural evaluation using macroscopic and microscopic methods was performed to understand their unique traits. Macroscopic and microscopic examinations were performed to evaluate the cellular structures. Qualitative and quantitative analytical methodologies were implemented to identify compounds present in ginger and flaxseed extracts. Fluorescence analysis was incorporated as a component of rigorous quality control protocols to ascertain the integrity of the herbal extracts. Thin-layer chromatography was utilized to validate the existence of bioactive compounds. The study identified significant levels of different compounds were present in both plant extracts. Structural evaluations revealed distinct cellular arrangements contributing to the quality and identity of ginger and flaxseed. Fluorescence analysis ensured the quality of the extracts and Thin-layer chromatography further validated the presence of the key bioactive compounds. The findings underscore the therapeutic potential of ginger and flaxseed due to their high content of bioactive compounds. This study emphasizes the importance of rigorous quality control measures in herbal medicine preparation and supports the continued use of these plants in both traditional and modern therapeutic practices.
