Tribute to Professor Costache Sandu
For those close to the „Amfiteatru Economic” journal, Professor Costache Sandu (1932-2023) remains, above all, a co-founder of the publication and the director of the Economic University College in Buzău, under whose aegis the first issues were published. Born in Brăila, he graduated from the current „Ion Ghica” Economic College in 1951. Professor Costache Sandu deeply appreciated his predecessor, who delivered the first economics lecture in Iași in 1847, and thus adorned a wall at the college in Buzău with Ion Ghica's portrait. His affable personality made him much loved by his contemporaries. It is often said, „Behind every successful man stands a strong woman!” Who was Professor Sandu’s life partner? Mrs. Doina Sandu, originally from Alba County, graduated from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) in the early 1970s. For three decades, she worked at the Center for Training and Development of Personnel in the Hotel and Tourism Industry in Bucharest (now the National Center for Tourism Education), under the Ministry of Tourism. She later returned to ASE as a PhD student. Recently, on the occasion of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the publication, in 1999, the editorial board – under the signature of the ASE rector, Professor PhD Nicolae Istudor, as well as Professor PhD Vasile Dinu, also co-founder and editor-inchief – assigned him an anniversary plaque „as a tribute to the Professor PhD Sandu Costache and in memory of his essential contribution to the establishment of the magazine as promoter and founder”. Our warmest regards go to Mrs. Prof. Doina Sandu from this corner of the page. (Nicolae Lupu)
