REHABILITATION CHALLENGES IN A CASE OF A FEMALE PATIENT WITH CARDIO-RESPIRATORY ARREST RESUSCITATED IN AN INTRA-HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT, ASSOCIATING MULTIPLE CARDIOVASCULAR COMORBIDITIES AND METABOLIC PATHOLOGY – CASE REPORT

Cardio-respiratory arrest is the sudden cessation of heart activity and breathing, leading to the absence of circulation and oxygen delivery to the body. It results in unconsciousness and, without immediate intervention such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), can quickly lead to death. Case presentation: We present the case of a 51year old woman admitted to our Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Clinic following two episodes of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) due to bradyasystole. The patient, with a history of hypertension, insulin-dependent diabetes, and morbid obesity, was successfully resuscitated and subsequently underwent a comprehensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation program. Initial interventions, in the Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiology Unit, included advanced cardiac life support measures, ventilatory support, and pharmacological treatment targeting cardiac, metabolic, and infectious complications. After stabilization, the patient was transferred to our Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Clinic Division for a tailored rehabilitation regimen, focusing on passive and active mobilization, strength training, and psychological support. Results: Over the course of rehabilitation, the patient demonstrated significant improvements in muscle strength, ambulation, and emotional well-being, as reflected by increased scores on clinical assessment scales. Conclusions: The case highlights the critical role of timely resuscitation, coordinated multidisciplinary care, and personalized rehabilitation program in achieving favorable outcomes after a cardiac arrest.
