Ketamine Therapy in the Management of Refractory Seizures in an Extremely Premature Neonate: A Case Report
Neonatal seizures, particularly refractory status epilepticus (RSE), pose significant challenges in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), especially in extremely premature infants. These patients are at increased risk due to brain immaturity and heightened susceptibility to complications. While conventional treatments often fail, ketamine, a noncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, has shown promise as adjunctive therapy for RSE in pediatric and adult populations.
