Neurolinguistic approach to teaching foreign languages: principles and teaching strategies

The Neuro-Linguistic Approach to Foreign Language Teaching: Key Principles and Teaching Strategies. This article discusses the neuro-linguistic approach to foreign language teaching, based on research in neurolinguistics and pedagogy. This approach focuses on developing students’ communicative skills through active use of the language in real-life situations, as opposed to traditional methods that emphasize mechanical memorization of grammatical rules. The neuro-linguistic approach emphasizes the development of implicit skills, i.e. the ability to use language automatically without consciously remembering grammatical structures. The strategies of this approach include active oral communication, pair and group work, and interactive and authentic tasks that enable students to learn the language through practical use. One of the core concepts of neuro-linguistic approach is the shift from learning a language through grammatical rules to the active use of language structures. This allows students to interact in the foreign language from the start, making the process less complex and more engaging. Instead of memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules, students immediately start using them in natural situations. Strategies that emphasize authenticity and interactivity stimulate students’ motivation, increase their involvement in the learning process and help to develop not only linguistic but also cognitive and social skills. The neuro-linguistic approach also has a positive effect on students’ self-esteem, as it allows them to actively use the foreign language not only in the classroom but also in everyday life. As a result of this approach, students not only achieve a high level of language competence, but also become more confident in their abilities.
