INTRATYMPANIC INJECTION WITH DEXAMETHASONE FOR SUDDEN SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS - AN INSTITUTIONAL EXPERIENCE
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of intratympanic steroid injections in adults with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and to identify factors influencing treatment outcomes.Design:A retrospective analysis of patients who received intratympanic steroid injections for sudden SNHL between JUNE 1, 2023 ,and NOVEMBER 30, 2024,at a teaching hospital in Hitech medical college and hospital,Bhubaneswar Results: Patients who received intratympanic steroid treatment within seven days of symptom onset showed a significantly higher response rate (90.9%) compared to those who received treatment later (20%).The overall response rate after four steroid injections was 68.9%.Patients with low and mid-frequency hearing loss demonstrated better responses to the treatment.Vertigo was found to be a negative prognostic factor for recovery. No long-term complications were observed from intratympanic steroid therapy. Conclusion: Intratympanic steroid injections are a straightforward and effective treatment option for sudden sensorineural hearing loss, particularly when initiated early within seven days of onset.
