Actual considerations for instantaneous reserve provided by DC connected offshore wind farms
The rapidly increasing system demand for instantaneous reserve is one of the key challenges for the transmission grid in the near future in Germany and Continental Europe. This enormous demand can only be met if all new power electronic installations do contribute. In the years up to 2031, 12 GW of offshore wind will be connected via HVDC systems in the TenneT grid area. For these systems, it is mandatory to contribute to the instantaneous reserve. In this paper, the technical complexity is presented by describing system requirements and identifying the technical challenges. In addition, the principles of the current considerations and the technical and organisational approach to implementation are presented.
