An integrated open-source algorithmic approach for comprehensive operating limit management in low voltage grids
The growing complexity of low-voltage (LV) grid operations in Germany, driven by fluctuating renewable energy generation and increasing electric heating and mobility demands, presents significant challenges for grid management. This paper introduces an open-source algorithm designed to identify and mitigate voltage and line loading violations in LV grids. Initially, the algorithm is tested in a simplified environment to demonstrate its ability to manage these violations through active power control using flexibility sources such as battery storage systems (BSS). The algorithm accurately captures the relationships between line currents, bus voltages and power injections/withdrawals, enabling precise control. After validation, the algorithm is integrated into a co-simulation framework incorporating realistic operational data. The open-source release fosters collaboration and further research, contributing to more resilient LV grid management practices.
