Assessing compliance of power park modules with future grid-forming capability requirements

The paper examines existing requirement formulations aimed at characterising the grid-forming capabilities of Power Park Modules by evaluating solutions adopted across various countries, with particular emphasis on the recent ENTSOE recommendations. The analysis focuses on two key aspects: the response of the device under test to voltage phase angle and magnitude jumps on the grid side. Simulation results, primarily obtained using a phasor-domain tool, are validated with EMTP. The study illustrates the ability of some compliance criteria to accommodate a range of solutions while providing manufacturers with sufficient flexibility for control design by applying them to different generic model implementations. Additionally, the paper highlights areas where further collaboration with stakeholders is needed to refine the requirements, ensuring they remain both relevant and achievable.
