Weight Illusion by Emphasizing the Arm Motion Trajectory During Avatar Transformation

Weight illusion is an illusion in which visual information, such as the size and apparent texture of an object, can influence weight perception even for the same weight. In this study, we emphasized the motion trajectories of the arms as visual information corresponding to the degree of motion progress in avatar transformation situations. Then, we investigated the effect of adding this information on the weight illusion. Experimental results show that the emphasis of the motion trajectory by the proposed model affects weight perception and produces the illusion of weight perception. It was also suggested that there are two groups of illusions and that the illusions may differ depending on the attention in the motion section.

Abstract

Weight illusion is an illusion in which visual information, such as the size and apparent texture of an object, can influence weight perception even for the same weight. In this study, we emphasized the motion trajectories of the arms as visual information corresponding to the degree of motion progress in avatar transformation situations. Then, we investigated the effect of adding this information on the weight illusion. Experimental results show that the emphasis of the motion trajectory by the proposed model affects weight perception and produces the illusion of weight perception. It was also suggested that there are two groups of illusions and that the illusions may differ depending on the attention in the motion section.
