Stick Shape Perception by Pseudo-Haptics Using Visual Stimuli

Pseudo-haptics is a phenomenon in which haptics occurs when visual or other stimuli are given without haptics information, and is used as a method to reproduce the haptics in virtual spaces. In related research, it has been confirmed that the haptics is improved by changing the color of the touched object or the color of the touched point, but the information necessary to perceive the shape of the touched object is not known. In this study, changing the visual information when the user touches a virtual object, we investigate the perceptibility of stick shape of the virtual object as well as the contact feeling by pseudo-haptics. From the results, we find effective visual stimuli for stick shape perception.
