ÍNDICE DE MASSA CORPORAL, NÍVEL DE ATIVIDADE FÍSICA E QUALIDADE DE VIDA EM ESCOLARES DO 9° ANO

Physical activity level (PAL) is considered an important element in promoting health and quality of life in schoolchildren. From this perspective, the present study aimed to verify the Body Mass Index (BMI), Physical Activity Level (PAL) and Quality of Life of Schoolchildren in public and private schools. In a quantitative observational study, the sample consisted of 37 9th grade students from the city of Timon-MA, 27 students from the public school system and 10 students from the private school system representing 100% of the classes. The students included in the study were male and female, aged between (15.4 ± 1.01) years. BMI was determined by measuring height and body mass. Data on personal information were obtained through self-completed questionnaires on: Physical Activity Level (IPAQ), Quality of Life (SF-36) and Socioeconomic Level. The results obtained in the study were: BMI was classified as normal even with the socioeconomic difference, while the levels of physical activity in the public school system were very active and active (57%), and in the private school system irregularly active and sedentary (70%). The functional capacity obtained by the quality of life questionnaire had its mean and standard deviation in the public school (74.8±24.1), and in the private school (75±22.6). Further studies in this population should be encouraged, since technological advances are becoming increasingly present in young people and adolescents, thus leading to a series of factors such as low levels of physical activity.
