Impact Of Application Of Robson Classification On Rate Of Cesarean Section In Al Azhar University Hospital, Damietta
Aim: To determine the caesarean section (CS) rate at Al-Azhar University Hospital, Damietta, Egypt, using the Robson classification system and to profile the women contributing to the rising CS rate at the study site. Method: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study based on a review of clinical records of women who delivered at the study site between 23 February 2023 and 23 February 2024 and met the inclusion criteria. Data were extracted from patient files using a specially designed study form and later transferred to Statistical Analysis System Version 22.0 (SPSS) for analysis using both descriptive and analytical statistics. Results: A total of 502 women were included, and the caesarean section rate was 75.9%. Women with higher age, higher gravidity, and higher parity were more likely to undergo a CS delivery. Groups 7, 9, and 5 contributed the largest number of women who delivered via CS. The following factors were found to be associated with an increased likelihood of CS delivery on multivariable regression analysis: previous history of CS delivery (and full-term pregnancy), pre-labour CS, and multiple pregnancies. Conclusion: The study identified a high CS rate within the study population and highlighted the Robson groups contributing to the elevated rate, as well as the factors associated with the likelihood of delivering via caesarean section.
