Effect of using Bacillus cereus bacteria on the ability of self-healing concrete
Abstract Concrete is a very common material used in the construction of infrastructure. Concrete has several problems such as cracking. Cracks occur due to fatigue from loading, environmental factors, creep, and shrinkage in concrete. This method is carried out by mixing Bacillus cereus bacteria in the concrete mixture made with as much as 10% of the amount of water used in the concrete mixture. Based on the research of compressive strength and split tensile strength of concrete, the results obtained the compressive strength value and the tensile strength value of concrete with the addition of Bacillus cereus bacteria as much as 10% of the amount of water increased the compressive strength of concrete by 3.6% from the average normal concrete compressive strength value with a value of 21.35 MPa to 22.12 MPa in concrete with the addition of Bacillus cereus bacteria. The split tensile strength of concrete increased by 24% from the average normal concrete split tensile strength value of 0.25 MPa to 0.31 MPa in concrete with the addition of Bacillus cereus bacteria. From the results of SEM testing on concrete added with Bacillus cereus bacteria, it can be seen that the bacterial cells are needle-shaped.
