Kilikier in der römischen Armee der Kaiserzeit

This article deals with the Cilician and Isaurian soldiers in all Roman units in the Principate. The contribution to the Roman army from the mountainous region of Asia Minor is analysed in detail. In particular, the conspicuous proportion of Cilicians in certain sections of the army and the possible reasons for this are analysed. The possible perceptions of the topoi about the peoples of Cilicia, especially from the perspective of the Cilicians and Isaurians, are then discussed. The article thus offers a glimpse into the professional lives of the ordinary people of the Taurus Mountains.
