Sensor-based Life Detection of Solar Cells

To enhance the longevity of nodes, various methods have been proposed to mitigate power consumption, including data compression and low-power routing technologies. However, reducing power consumption alone cannot entirely address the issue of limited node lifespan. In response to this challenge, an innovative micro-solar system for outdoor sensor network nodes is introduced. This system utilizes solar panels to convert solar energy into electrical energy, storing it in a novel low-self-discharge nickel-hydrogen AAA battery. To further extend the battery’s service life, a battery-driven design approach was employed during system development. A prototype was constructed and deployed outdoors, with data sampling occurring at 10-minute intervals and a 15-second sampling rate. The system underwent continuous testing for four weeks under optimal load conditions. The voltage levels of the charging battery pack were continuously monitored for seven days, aligning perfectly with the design strategy. This design offers the advantages of high reliability, cost-effectiveness, and practical feasibility.
