TÉCNICA DE SUTURA ILIOFEMORAL PARA ESTABILIZAÇÃO DE LUXAÇÃO COXOFEMORAL EM CÃO: RELATO DE CASO

Coxofemoral luxation (CFL) in dogs is the displacement of the femur from its normal position in the hip joint, most often caused by trauma such as accidents, falls, or fights, but it can also occur due to congenital factors related to age or breed predisposition. This condition is common in dogs of any age and does not have a specific predilection for certain animals, being acquired in various ways. The condition is primarily seen in cases of severe trauma that cause significant displacement and even fractures. Although the luxation causes considerable pain and risk to the patient, the best form of reduction is surgical. There are several methods, including iliofemoral suture and femoral head and neck excision, which are the most commonly used in veterinary orthopedics. The diagnosis is initially clinical, with a physical exam revealing hip asymmetry, intense pain upon manipulation, and limb shortening. Imaging tests, such as X-rays, are essential to confirm the luxation and evaluate the condition of surrounding structures. The prognosis depends on several factors but is generally good to reserved. Although there are different treatment options for CFL, the best outcomes are associated with early and surgical treatment. This work presents a case report of coxofemoral luxation in a male Beagle, weighing 14 kg and approximately 9 months old, treated at Specialle Pet Clinic, located in Crato-CE. It describes the entire clinical process of diagnosis and treatment, from the onset of symptoms in July 2024 until the patient's clinical improvement.
