ASSESSMENT OF DIABETES MELLITUS CONTROLAND ITS CORRELATION WITH COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND HEALTH-SEEKING BEHAVIOR IN A SEMIURBAN POPULATION OF NORTHERN GUJRAT.

Introduction: Diabetes is a global health concern, with its prevalence rising in semi-urban populations. Despite advancements in treatment, glycemic control remains suboptimal, often influenced by awareness and health-seeking behavior. This study aims to assess the level of diabetes awareness, healthcare utilization, and their impact on glycemic control in a semi-urban population. Aims And Objectives: The study aims to evaluate the association between diabetes awareness scores, healthcare access, and glycemic control. Key objectives include assessing participants' knowledge of diabetes risk factors, complications, and monitoring, as well as identifying barriers to effective diabetes management in semi-urban settings. Materials And Methodology: This cross-sectional study involved 152 adults diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, selected from a semi-urban healthcare center. Data on diabetes awareness, health-seeking behavior, and glycemic control (HbA1c levels) were collected via structured questionnaires and medical records. Statistical analyses were performed to determine associations between awareness and glycemic control. Results: The study found that only 30% of participants had optimal glycemic control, while higher awareness scores were significantly correlated with better control. Routine healthcare follow-ups and specialist consultations were also associated with improved outcomes. Financial constraints and limited healthcare access were identified as major barriers. Conclusion: The findings emphasize the need for targeted communitybased interventions to improve diabetes awareness and healthcare access. Strengthening primary healthcare systems and enhancing diabetes education are essential to improving glycemic control and reducing the disease burden in semi-urban areas.
