Disciplina, moral e lógica punitivo-penal: a institucionalização da escola brasileira no século XIX

This article is the result of a research project that analyzes the punitive-penal structure of schooling in Brazil since its implementation as a public policy in the 19th century. From a genealogical perspective, we investigated documents in historical archives that define, in the process of institutionalizing the school, punitive forms that speak of the transition from torture to disciplinarization/judicialization. The bibliographical research focused on the liberal government strategies that, in the midst of slave relations, structured the school in Brazil as a state policy. We highlight its role in consolidating a new governmental model, whose mode of existence is sustained by the proliferation and naturalization of the legal norm, and its permanence in the moral and punitive perspectives of pedagogical relations in the 21st century.
