PERFIL DE INTERNAÇÃO HOSPITALAR E DE MORTALIDADE POR ACIDENTE VASCULAR CEREBRAL EM UM HOSPITAL MACRORREGIONAL DE REFERÊNCIA EM ATENDIMENTO NEUROLÓGICO NO MUNICÍPIO DE DIAMANTINA

Stroke is a vascular disease that causes neurological damage and can be ischemic or hemorrhagic. It affects 15 million people a year worldwide and is one of the main causes of death and disability in Brazil. The aim of this study was to analyze the epidemiological profile of patients admitted for stroke to a macro-regional neurological care service in the municipality of Diamantina. This is a retrospective, longitudinal, exploratory and descriptive study carried out between January 2014 and November 2024. The study was based on an analysis of the SUS Hospital Morbidity database, extracted from the Hospital Information System (SIH) of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), considering hospitalizations recorded by place of occurrence. Diamantina recorded 4,168 hospitalizations and 661 deaths from strokes. The peak of HAIs occurred in 2016 (476 cases), with a drop until 2020. Since 2022, cases have increased. Hospitalizations and deaths were more frequent in men (52.7% and 51.9%) and in the 60-79 age group. Browns were the majority of deaths (91%). The mortality rate was similar between the sexes, but between the ages of 40-59, it was higher in men (36.6% against 22.1% in women). After the age of 60, the female rate exceeded the male rate (31.9% against 25.4%). The analysis indicates an increase in cases and an upturn in mortality since 2022, reflecting risk factors and an ageing population. Men and the elderly were the most affected. The study can support policies for prevention, expanding access to health and better monitoring of risk groups.
