Exploring the potential benefits of fly ash in wheat growth: Key insights from field studies

Proper handling of such a huge amount of fly ash which is being produced in the process of electricity generation through coal based thermal power stations is really needed. It is also a matter of great environmental concern.Because, fly ash is a coal residue, it is entirely organic in composition. It contains many micro and macro nutrients like soil. The present study was conducted at farmer's field near district Firozabad to find out the effect of fly ash on growth and yield parameters of wheat.Fly ash (FA), organic manure like farmyard manure (FYM) and chemical fertilizer (CF) were used alone and also in different combinations. Two wheat varieties HD-2967 and PBW-343 were used in this study.Experimental plots (2m x 2m) were prepared using above treatment combinations. The treatments were replicated thrice in randomized block design (RBD) and a total of 48 plots were prepared for two varieties of wheat.Field trials for two successive years were performed and periodic observations of growth and yield parameters of test crops were recorded. Most of the growth and yield parameters get increased for both wheat varieties over control.
