Economic Comparison of Renewable Energy Potential for Lighting in the Banyak Islands, Indonesia

Currently, efforts are underway to advance the development of renewable energy, particularly in remote areas that lie beyond the reach of existing electrical power systems. The island regions are confronted with numerous challenges stemming from escalating electricity consumption, largely attributed to reliance on diesel power plants. One eco-friendly alternative is harnessing wind and solar power. This research employs quantitative methods to process the collected data, determining economic viability, land usage, and the potential for wind and solar energy. Data analysis and processing are performed to assess variables such as wind speed and solar radiation distribution, as well as economic value and land use comparisons. The findings indicate that both solar power plants and wind power plants can be implemented in the Banyak Island Area. Economically, the installation of a wind power plant proves more cost-effective than that of a Solar Power Plant in the region.
