Comments on the Use of Intravenous Clonidine and Magnesium Sulfate in Attenuating Hemodynamic Response to Pneumoperitoneum During Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Dear Editor, We read with interest the article by Rymbai SA and Hazra D, published in the recent issue of Medical Journal of DY Patil Vidyapeeth.[1] We congratulate the authors for a well-conducted study. However, we have certain queries. Effective control of sympathetic response to pneumoperitoneum is vital to avoid morbidity in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgeries. This must be achieved with less side effects of the drugs. Also, a rapid recovery from anesthesia must be ensured. Various drugs have been tried for this purpose, namely, esmolol[2] ropivacaine,[3] clonidine,[4] magnesium sulfate,[4] dexmedetomidine[5] etc. Considering the efficacy, ease of availability and cost, inj. magnesium sulfate, would be a better choice. There seems to be a typing mistake in the abstract. Please, see the sentence, Methods and Methodology: This was a prospective randomized blinded trial comparing the efficacy of injection clonidine 1.5 μg/kg (group A) and magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) 50 mg/kg (group B) done over six. After this the word – months, should be added. Thanking you. Data availability statement Please contact corresponding author for any data required.
