Pickleball-Related Musculoskeletal Injuries: Part 2—Traumatic Pathologies From Movement and Collision
Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, combines elements of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton. Despite its noncontact nature, the sport’s rising popularity has led to an increase in musculoskeletal injuries. The unique characteristics and recent surge in pickleball’s popularity may pose a diagnostic challenge for clinicians, resulting in unnecessary radiologic studies, increased health care costs, and delayed diagnoses and treatment. A comprehensive understanding of these injury manifestations and mechanisms not only facilitates faster and more precise diagnoses, reducing the risk of complications, but also enables radiologists to guide clinicians in selecting the most appropriate imaging modalities for injury characterization and treatment planning.
