Enhancing Teens’ Mental Health and Identity Through the E-Komet Module for Parent-Teen Communication Aligned with SDG Goals

Objectives: Adolescents often experience mental health and identity issues, which are worsened by weak communication with parents. This study aims to develop the E-KOMET (Electronic Communication between Parents and Children) module to enhance parent-teen communication, supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 on mental well-being. Theoretical Framework: The study is based on the Family Empowerment Model, which emphasizes strengthening family relationships through communication skills, empathy, and shared activities. Method: The research was conducted in Surabaya, Indonesia, using interviews, focus group discussions, and a review of relevant materials. These methods helped identify key elements necessary for effective parent-teen communication. Results and Discussion: The findings indicate that E-KOMET improves communication, reduces conflicts, and enhances emotional connections. Adolescents reported better mental health and identity development, while parents gained skills to communicate effectively and set appropriate boundaries. The module also integrates technology for feedback and peer support, promoting trust and empathy within families. Research Implications: E-KOMET provides practical tools for family health promotion and nursing education. It highlights the role of structured communication strategies in improving adolescent well-being and family relationships. Originality/Value: This study contributes to SDG 3 by offering an innovative, technology-supported module that fosters healthier family environments, ultimately supporting adolescent mental health and development.
