Corneal pathology depending on blood groups

Aim. To study the epidemiology of corneal pathology and the dependence of its occurrence on the AB0 system according to the ophthalmological department which operates around the clock to provide emergency ophthalmological care. Methods. A retrospective analysis of the medical records of 414 patients with corneal pathology who were treated at the GBUZ TO “OKB No. 2” was carried out. Average age was 50.6 years [20;92]. Of these, 247 (59.6 %) men, 167 (40.4 %) women. A standard ophthalmic examination was performed. The determination of blood group according to the AB0 system was determined by standard serums (simple reaction). Results and discussion. Comparing the frequency of occurrence in a healthy population of different blood groups, it was found that the leaders with high rates in patients with inflammatory pathology of the cornea are those with B (III) and AB (IV) blood groups:1.73 times and 2.41 times, respectively. The third and fourth place in the incidence rate are occupied by blood group A (II) (0.87 times) and blood group 0 (I) (0.87 times). Conclusion. Thus, patients with B (III) and AB (IV) blood groups have a higher risk of inflammatory corneal pathology developing. Key words: corneal pathology, blood type, epidemiology, ophthalmology department
