Advances and Significance of Nanowires in Semiconductor Applications
Nanowires (NWs) are currently at the forefront of innovation in semiconductor applications, demonstrating the significant potential for developing several fields such as electrical engineering, photonics, energy conversion and sensing technologies. NWs offer notable benefits, including improved computational capabilities, greater sensor performance and efficient energy conversion processes, regardless of their composition, which may include silicon, zinc oxide, gallium nitride, carbon or other materials. Ongoing research efforts are focused on overcoming the issues of scalability, repeatability and integration into current semiconductor frameworks. NWs are driving development in semiconductor technology through improvements in synthesis processes such as vapor-liquid–solid and chemical vapor deposition, as well as advancements in characterization techniques and new applications. As ongoing endeavors persist to surmount obstacles and exploit their distinctive characteristics, NWs are positioned to facilitate revolutionary advancements in semiconductor devices, hence facilitating a new epoch of innovation and technological progress.
