Normal Pancreatic Enzyme Levels Do Not Rule Out Acute Pancreatitis- A Case Report
Acute pancreatitis is an uncommon cause of abdominal pain in childhood. The diagnosis is made by classical presentation of epigastric pain, with typical clinical examination findings, elevated levels of amylase and lipase and imaging findings. Practically, measurement of enzyme levels is used to screen for pancreatitis in children presenting with abdominal pain, since lipase levels have high negative predictive value in diagnosis of acute pancreatitis. But recently, we managed a child with pancreatitis, who had normal enzyme levels. In this case report, we are presenting the details of the case, along with literature review on acute pancreatitis with normal enzyme levels. Keywords: Pancreatitis, Lipase, Child, Enzyme
