A CASE OF BIPOLAR DISORDER WITH UNIQUE FAMILY TREE
Introduction- Bipolar disorder is a common, complex genetic disorder, but the mode of transmission remains to be discovered. Worldwide prevalence of BD is 0.3-1.2%, In India it is around 0.3% (NMHS-2015-16) . The heritability of bipolar disorder based on concordance rates for bipolar disorder in twin studies has been estimated to be between 60% and 80% . The risk of BD in st 1 degree relatives of the patients is increased approximately 10- fold over the normal community. Case Report – We report a case of a 19 yr old female with a unique family tree with all female members suffering from Bipolar disorder whereas all male members remained unaffected. Conclusion- Family and twin studies have documented the familiality and heritability of BD but such unique female gender predilection has not been studied yet.
