A study of the influence of phenolic compounds and stable radicals on the light stability of dyed cotton fabrics
The durability of dyed and printed textiles is largely determined by their resistance to the light beams. When considering this problem, it is important to analyze the light stability of all components of the system „polymer-dye-additives“. However, in most cases, special emphasis should be placed on the dye as a limiting element of the photostability resource. Photochemical transformations of the system begin as a result of the absorption of a light quantum. The coloring molecule included in the system intensively absorbs the ultraviolet (UV) and visible regions of the spectrum, from which the UV region has a special effect on the photodegradation process of the molecule. The reason for this may be that the photon energy of the UV light beam is proportional to the photoionization energy of the covalent bond in the dye-stuff molecule. In such a case, the photodestruction of the dye-stuff molecule takes place without the formation of stable intermediate products, and it is difficult to avoid it. It has been established that in the model systems, it is possible to delay the photodestruction process through chemical screening of UV radiation, which is related to the introduction of various additives into the polymer matrix and increasing the system’s light stability.
