Gender and Climate Change Impacts in the MENA Region: Insights from Refugee Camps in Jordan
Abstract This discussion paper focuses on the intersection between gender norms, climate change and displacement with a focus on Jordan, one of the driest countries in the region as well as a country hosting the world’s second-largest number of refugees per capita. We argue that to tackle the impacts of climate change in the region, climate action needs to adopt a gender sensitive approach at its heart. Drawing on UNHCR ’s work in the region, we identify key pathways for gender inclusivity in climate action.
