Elagolix to Treat Menstrual Related Symptom Exacerbations in Early Onset Parkinson Disease: A Case Report
ABSTRACT Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by motor and cognitive impairment and autonomic dysfunction. Limited data exist on the management of menstrual exacerbation of PD. We present a case of a 48‐year‐old woman with early‐onset PD and worsening symptoms prior to the onset of menses. Her complex medical history of prior thrombosis and progesterone dermatitis contraindicated hormonal menstrual suppression with estrogen and progesterone therapy. The patient was successfully treated with Elagolix, a GnRH antagonist. Elagolix appears to have a role in menstrual suppression in patients with menstrual‐related fluctuations of PD who have contraindications to or fail hormonal therapy.
