Late complications requiring surgical intervention in severe stages of retinopathy of prematurity
Purpose. To evaluate features of late complications of ROP that requiresurgical intervention. Material and methods. An analysis of scientificpublications by domestic and foreign authors was made on the resourcesof PubMed, Medline, eLibrary from 1992 to 2024, devoted to thedescription of late complications of ROP requiring surgical intervention.Results. Currently, due to the development of ophthalmological servicesin perinatal centers, the percentage of severe forms of ROP has decreased, but the problem of the consequences of ROP in the regressive or scarringperiod remains relevant. The greatest attention is paid to diseases andconditions that develop as a result of a severe proliferative process, whichmay require surgical intervention at different periods of the child’s life. Such conditions include peripheral retinal dystrophies, rhegmatogenousand traction-rhematogenous retinal detachments, late hemorrhages, exudative vitreoretinopathy, secondary glaucoma, sequential cataracts, progressive subatrophy of the eyeball. Conclusion. A comprehensiveexamination of the eye condition of children who have suffered severeforms of ROP will allow for the most complete assessment of the prospectsfor the outcome of surgical treatment of this disease in the delayed period. Key words: retinopathy of prematurity, peripheral retinal dystrophy, retinal detachment, hemorrhages, exudative vitreoretinopathy, secondaryglaucoma, cataract
