Comparative analysis of the effect of anti-inflammatory therapy on intraocular pressure in patients with vitreoretinal pathology in the early postoperative period

Relevance. Application of various steroids in the postoperative period in patients with vitreoretinal pathology is an integral part of antiinflammatory therapy, however, it is associated with the risk of increased intraocular pressure. Purpose. Assessment of the dynamic change in IOP and the severity of the inflammatory process in patients after vitreoretinal surgery, depending on the anti-inflammatory drug used. Material and methods. 63 eyes of patients with vitreoretinal pathology were examined. The following groups were identified: the first group included 33 eyes that received instillations of 0.1% dexamethasone solution in the postoperative period, and the second group included 30 eyes that received instillations of 0.1% fluorometholone solution (Floas Mono). The analysis of changes in intraocular pressure in the period before surgery, the day after it, 1 week later and 1 month later was carried out. Results. An increase in the level of intraocular pressure was revealed in patients in both study groups, while the use of dexamethasone 0.1% was associated with higher IOP than the use of fluorometholone 0.1%. There were no significant differences in the frequency and degree of occurrence of inflammatory phenomena. Conclusion. Fluorometholone has less effect on increasing intraocular pressure than dexamethasone. So, it is a priority choice in patients with vitreoretinal pathology in postoperative period. Key words: ophthalmohypertension, vitreoretinal surgery, glucocorticosteroids, dexamethasone, fluorometholone
